I strongly recommend fully vaccinating kids against preventable diseases on the schedule approved by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP), and the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP). I do not support nonmedical vaccine exemptions.
As a pediatric nurse practitioner, I value that health encompasses the body, mind, and spirit. I strive to listen thoughtfully and work collaboratively with children and their families, providing education, guidance, and expertise in the pursuit of individual and family health and well-being.”– Tamra Kehoe, CPNP, PMHS
While playing army as a kid, Tamra consistently starred as the nurse giving shots with holly leaves. For as long as she can remember, her world – whether make-believe or real – has always revolved around caring for and comforting others. As she grew, this passion never left her, and she eventually set out to become a registered nurse.
After working in PICU (pediatric intensive care unit) and hospital nursing for 10 years, Tamra returned to school to become a pediatric nurse practitioner. Her decade of hospital experience made it clear that she wanted to be on the frontlines of preventive health care.
Today Tamra has been a pediatric nurse practitioner for nearly 25 years, caring for children of all ages from birth through adolescence. In recent years, she’s worked with school-age children, primarily teens, in a school-based health center. Teenagers are on the cusp of adulthood, taking care of themselves and making decisions. Walking alongside them as they contemplated their options and life plans has been an incredible joy! Supporting patients in the pursuit of their health and well-being, seeing their growth and development, and witnessing the journey families take raising children has been the most rewarding experience – and confirmation that Tamra was meant for this kind of work.
Passionate about the mental health of children and families, Tamra is also a certified pediatric primary care mental health specialist (PMHS). During appointments, she will touch on mindfulness, resilience, and self-care – learnable skills we can all benefit from!
Recent empty nesters, Tamra and her husband are adjusting to this new chapter of their lives after raising three kids. With a bit more time for hobbies these days, Tamra enjoys reading, walking, hiking, and kayaking. Her furbaby, dog Willis, has no objections to the extra attention and daily walks on a nearby trail!
FUN FACT: Tamra has lived in 11 states, but just celebrated 30 years in Oregon!
We’d love to welcome you into the Metro Pediatrics family!
