I strongly recommend fully vaccinating kids against preventable diseases on the schedule approved by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP), and the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP). I do not support nonmedical vaccine exemptions.
As a pediatrician, my goal is to empower parents to raise healthy, resilient children by providing them with current evidence-based medical information and recommendations, an environment that supports careful listening and collaboration, and a balanced perspective using a whole-child approach."– Allison Baynham, MD, IBCLC
During her third grade career fair, Dr. Baynham chose pediatrician as her future profession and never looked back. Honestly, she can’t imagine doing anything else! Although getting through all the other medical school rotations was a grind, she found joy in the company of children and families, which made everything worthwhile. Even now, no matter how busy or difficult the day, patients always find a way to make her laugh and remind her why she loves pediatrics so much.
A firm believer that “it takes a village,” Dr. Baynham enjoys bringing families together, offering an opportunity to bond with others going through similar struggles, the chance to problem-solve as a team, and to observe a wide variety of normal development at each age. She looks forward to leading group visits at Metropolitan Pediatrics in the future and watching friendships blossom among families (her favorite part).
Outside the office, Dr. Baynham has a passion for running and participates in several local races each year. A big fan of Girls on the Run, she encourages anyone with an interest in running to become involved with their mentorship program. She also practices yoga for the cross-training and mindfulness benefits as well as barre, Pilates, and cycling.
When not breaking a sweat, Dr. Baynham indulges in a chillier pastime: sampling ice cream, her all-time favorite treat! She’s usually up-to-date on the seasonal offerings at Salt & Straw (with strong opinions to share), and always up for a good debate about Portland’s highest ranking ice cream shops. She’s also well-versed in Portland’s food scene, keeping tabs on the latest and greatest places to grab a bite.
Other loves include her husband, daughter, and son. Together, they enjoy spending the day at Sauvie Island, Cannon Beach, or taking a hike in Forest Park. Hawaii has been a longtime favorite vacation spot and home to Dr. Baynham’s most memorable travel experience: swimming with wild dolphins off the Big Island!
Great conversation starters for your visit with Dr. Baynham include food, restaurants, travel, running, her dog, and personal parenting experiences (she understands and empathizes with parents of colicky infants). You can also chat her up about cooking and kitchen experiments – she has a great residency story about implementing a school-based garden, which led to an epic cook-off!
