Care Philosophy

I believe that the best way to help kids and their families is to take the time to truly listen. Not every problem is fixable, but if we take the time to listen, establish connections, and learn from each other, we can make positive changes. I see medicine and education as intimately tied together. My role as a provider is not only to have medical knowledge and experience, but also to educate my patients and families while being open to learning from them. I like to provide my patients and families with options for their care, explaining the pros and cons of each, to help guide everyone to a decision that makes the most sense for them. I want my patients to leave feeling educated and empowered.”

Biography

Dr. Bauer comes from a family of doctors. His parents were both primary care physicians, and he grew up watching them care for their patients with compassion and dedication. Despite his admiration for his parents’ work, Dr. Bauer initially wanted to find his own path. He loved math and science, and he was passionate about helping others, so he became a civil engineering major in college.

However, as he progressed through his studies, Dr. Bauer realized that something was missing: human connection. It took until his final year of college for him to admit that maybe medicine was the right choice for him, too.

During his medical school rotation in the pediatric ICU, Dr. Bauer found his calling. He was inspired by the way the pediatricians took complex medical problems and explained them to families and children in a way they could understand. They met families where they were at, with compassion and empathy. Dr. Bauer knew he wanted to be just like those pediatricians.

Today, Dr. Bauer is a dedicated pediatrician who loves getting to know his patients and their families over time. He believes that the most meaningful changes take time and trust, and the only way to build that is through strong relationships. It’s a privilege for him to care for children as they grow up, from newborns to adults, and he is grateful for the opportunity to make a lasting impact on his community through pediatrics.

Dr. Bauer, a Portland native, has a passion for sports, the outdoors, and music. He’s a die-hard Blazers and Timbers fan, and he loves skiing, an obsession he developed while living in Utah. When he’s not discovering new music or hitting the slopes, Dr. Bauer is often found playing the guitar, solving a crossword puzzle (his favorite tradition is the Sunday crossword with his wife, Marta), or reading a good book. And despite being allergic to cats, he’s now a proud pet dad to Sego, a hypoallergenic cat named after the Utah state flower. He even takes him on short walks on a leash!

Fun facts: Dr. Bauer played soccer in high school and college. He also grew up playing the saxophone and jazz music.
