Science teacher by day, mommy-in-training by night, Keyra was meticulously preparing for the arrival of her daughter in 2019. Juggling physics equations with newborn care manuals, she devoured every resource on lactation and infant development. But just like any science experiment, some of the variables were outside her control…

The global pandemic in March 2020 upended her carefully planned birthing and lactation classes. Undeterred, Keyra embarked on a new kind of research journey, one that would spark a passion she never expected. Fueled by data and breastfeeding statistics, the world of lactation consulting ignited a fire within her. This wasn’t just learning; it was a new calling!

With a nudge from her WIC counselor, Keyra pursued lactation education. Determined to gain practical experience, she embarked on a unique search for a mentor. The perfect fit resided across the country in Washington state. Despite the distance, the chance to develop her skills firsthand was an easy decision for Keyra and her family. They traded the sunny skies of South Florida for the breathtaking Pacific Northwest.

After countless clinical hours, Keyra achieved her dream – becoming an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant. Landing her first job at Metro Pediatrics felt like the culmination of a whirlwind journey.

But Keyra’s greatest reward lies in empowering families. She thrives on providing parents with the knowledge they need to make informed choices about their unique feeding situations. Whether working in private practice, hospitals, or with the local lactation coalition, her mission is to contribute to breastfeeding success, support optimal parent-child health, and champion all feeding methods.

Witnessing families achieve their feeding goals or gracefully adjust plans, all while fostering a strong caregiver-child bond, brings Keyra immense joy. This is the magic she witnesses daily.

Keyra’s life outside of lactation is just as adventurous! Born in Philadelphia and raised in South Florida with two hilarious brothers, she’s now a proud mom to a four-year-old adventurer who’s explored over 35 states! A Siberian Husky adds a touch of playful chaos to their vibrant family picture. Her Jamaican heritage fuels her love for singing and dancing, and when they’re not conquering the outdoors (hiking is their favorite!) or snapping nature photos, Keyra and her husband are known for spontaneous getaways.

As a family, they believe the best learning happens knee-deep in new experiences. You might find them at sporting events, concerts, or community events. Their next adventure is always on the horizon!
