Care Philosophy

I care for children and their families without judgement, always listen with an open heart and mind, and value all cultures and ways of life.”

– Eman Lutfi, MD

Biography

In elementary school, Dr. Lutfi witnessed a classmate have a seizure. It was the first time she ever observed one or even knew it could happen. She was stunned and felt so helpless, not knowing how to help her. From that day forward, she made a promise to help and empower others, sparking the journey to become a doctor.

A few years later, Dr. Lutfi received her medical degree from Kuwait University and gained real-world experience around the world. Her medical training took her to the UK, Scotland, and Egypt. She eventually landed in the United States for pediatric residency training at the University of Florida. In 1999, she moved to Portland with her husband, who is also a pediatrician, and two children to be closer to family. She’s been happily practicing pediatrics locally ever since.

Dr. Lutfi enjoys working with kids of all ages, enhancing their physical and emotional well-being, and helping them and their families during sickness and health. Two decades of practicing medicine have taught her to always listen to parents’ concerns and intuition. As a mother of two, she knows how powerful parental instinct can be. She feels her care style is best described by Rumi, a 13th-century Persian poet, who said, “Listen with ears of tolerance; see through the eyes of compassion; speak with the language of love.” She does her best to live up to these words every day.

Born and raised in Kuwait, Dr. Lutfi speaks both English and Arabic fluently. Having traveled and lived in many countries, she appreciates the beauty of other cultures and their way of life. She loves people and getting to know them, and thinks Hippocrates got it right when he said, “Wherever the art of medicine is loved, there is also a love of humanity.”

Oregon is unique and beautiful in so many ways. Dr. Lutfi loves being outdoors, where she enjoys kayaking regularly and gardening. Other hobbies include yoga a few times a week and cooking Middle Eastern cuisine. She firmly believes that a healthy, balanced diet nurtures the body and the mind. Above all, she loves spending time with her family and connecting with distant relatives around the world!
