I strongly recommend fully vaccinating kids against preventable diseases on the schedule approved by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP), and the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP). I do not support nonmedical vaccine exemptions.
I love learning from and growing with new families as they traverse the waters of parenthood. Watching families create new bonds with their children, each other, and the community around them is extremely gratifying.”– Nisha Baliga, MD
An extrovert by all accounts, Dr. Baliga’s biggest draw to medicine was the opportunity to connect with people. She is, by nature, someone who gains energy and fulfillment by working directly with others. While medicine easily checks that box, Dr. Baliga admits that she walked into medical school without a vision for her future specialty. She had to test the waters to decide.
By day five of her outpatient pediatrics rotation, Dr. Baliga felt the tides shifting. During her first week in the clinic, an unassuming 12-year-old boy softly admitted to her that his mother was physically abusing him, and a 15-year-old girl openly discussed her previously diagnosed eating disorder. Within that first week, Dr. Baliga became deeply moved by these difficult conversations that challenged her to be flexible and adapt her communication style to the needs of her patients.
Once on the inpatient pediatric wards, Dr. Baliga quickly learned that working at a children’s hospital especially necessitated flexible and contextually sensitive communication styles as the hospital is certainly one of the most difficult places for a child and family to be. Dr. Baliga appreciates how pediatric patients’ perception of their health evolves over time as they mature and become insightful young adults. Caring for a child is never straightforward, organized, or predictable, and Dr. Baliga finds a great deal of fulfillment in navigating an environment that constantly challenges her to be creative.
At the end of the day, Dr. Baliga always values the new and memorable connections she makes with her patients, and she empowers them to take care of themselves in an age-appropriate manner. She has a soft spot for teenagers, specifically adolescent girls, and enjoys talking with them about reproductive health, mood, and adolescence.
In her free time, Dr. Baliga is happiest in the company of people. She lives with her partner and dog Reggie, the neediest rescue dog who always tries to run away, but can’t escape their love. She keeps an active social life and can’t imagine living anywhere outside the Pacific Northwest. Dr. Baliga adores the temperate climate here – she loves the ethereal mist of the winters, the dry sun of the summers, and the drizzles of spring. She grew up in America’s Dairyland (Wisconsin), and somehow managed to resist becoming a Cheesehead.
"2 of my daughters recently saw Dr. Beliga. She was absolutely amazing with both of them! One of my girls is not a fan of doctors, but she went on and on about how much she loved Dr. Beliga! She has such a gift for talking to the kids and making them feel listened to and understand. She also does a great job of explaining things to kids and they feel like she isn't talking down to them. She has such a beautiful heart and wonderful bedside manner. We are so happy to have found her and we hughly recommend her."– Amy L.
"Went in for my son's 3 year check up with Dr Baliga. She was warm, funny, and kind. Staff was great and personable, also. Looking forward to his next well visit!"– Ines S.
"We LOVE Metropolitan Pediatrics! We have met some amazing doctors and nurses. Each time we go we are treated with kindness, respect, and happy faces from reception to nurses to the physicians. They respect us as parents and support our decisions, but also are ready to offer suggestions when we need them. The advice nurses are quick to respond both over MyChart and over the phone when we have reached out. Dr. Chiu and Dr. Baliga are both PHENOMENAL physicians who make us feel so at ease as new parents, and their genuine care for our baby's wellbeing is evident each time we go. We could not be happier with our decision to make Metro Peds Beaverton our child's clinic!!"– Katie L.
"After a traumatizing event from our previous provider, we went to Dr. Baliga to establish new care for our girls. The staff, medical assistant, and Dr. Baliga herself were so welcoming and kind. They looked like they genuinely loved their job despite being in the middle of a pandemic. They took us in so fast and made every step of the way go smoothly. So happy I've found a great new pediatrician and clinic for my babies!"– Christina T.
We’d love to welcome you into the Metro Pediatrics family!
