I love working with children, teens, and families because there is so much potential for goodness, growth, and hope for the future. When young people are given the opportunity to share their perspectives on things, they often have insight and wisdom to offer that can be so amazing. I also love to laugh and find that children and teens are some of the best people to be around when you need your spirit lifted.”– Christy Vartanian, LCSW
With a heart for helping people, and a love of working with and being around children, Christy knew some type of career helping kids would be in her future. During her junior year of college, she stumbled upon this degree called Social Work, and knew it was meant to be. A career often referred to as “the helping field” spoke to her in so many ways. The core values of social work include service, social justice, dignity and worth of the person, importance of human relationships, integrity, and competence. These are all values that Christy embraces, both in her personal and professional life. She was even more excited to discover the importance of social work in children’s lives. It happily merged all her favorite things into one career! Since that time, Christy has held several different jobs within the field, always working with children and their families in some form or another.
Today Christy continues to follow her heart in the direction of helping others. Although she’s been doing this for years now, she still gets excited to listen to a child or teen and their family talk about what’s going on for them, what they need, and how she can support them in finding solution-focused ways toward progress. When something in their lives shifts and improves for the better, it gets her every time. It’s truly the best feeling ever!
At home, Christy is mom to twin teenagers and passionate about spending time with her family, taking her dog for walks, reading, and watching anything in the psychological thriller category. Hamilton is another guilty pleasure that she and her daughter share—she’s lost count of how many times they’ve seen it together! Seriously, SO GOOD!!!
We’d love to welcome you into the Metro Pediatrics family!
