Care Philosophy

I believe there are multiple factors that contribute to a child’s well-being. It is important that I know both the child and their family so I can treat each patient as an individual. Often, information and understanding are more important than medication. I like patients and their families to understand the options for care. As a child matures, I endeavor to make them more a part of the decision process without excluding the parents."

– Heather Moore, MD

Biography

Dr. Moore has been with Metropolitan Pediatrics since we opened our doors in 1999.

With a research scientist mother and chemist father, she practically grew up in the lab. And although this led to an appreciation of science, it didn’t take her long to realize that beakers, Bunsen burners, and the periodic table make poor company! She gladly abandoned lab equipment in favor of working with people.

Pediatrics allows Dr. Moore to apply her interest in science while connecting with people of all ages. She likes that the field offers variety, but also a measure of predictability. Patients change over time, and her relationships with them grow and change too, but these changes are expected and consistent with the stages of development.

As a mother of two, Dr. Moore delights in re-experiencing parental moments with the parents of her patients. And she is extremely passionate about helping adolescents and their families prepare for the transition to adulthood, so they can successfully move onto the next chapter of life. Her biggest piece of advice when it comes to the college years: Major in what you’re interested in; what you’re most passionate about!

Both in and outside of the office, Dr. Moore is known as a really positive, energetic person. She enjoys walking her corgi while catching up with friends and has a love of travel. Her best trip to date: India. She also adores visiting her au pair (nanny) daughter in France! For a little R&R, Dr. Moore is fond of quilting or getting lost in a great novel. She’s a huge fan of Jane Austen and has recently broadened her horizons to non-fiction.

Originally from Texas, Dr. Moore has come to love the Northwest and considers Portland her forever home.
