Metropolitan Pediatrics’ history of providing top-notch medical services to the residents of Portland can be traced back more than 100 years…
Our story begins in 1908 with the establishment of the multispecialty Bodine-Cantril Clinic in NE Portland across from the Memorial Coliseum. This clinic was home to Portland’s very first pediatrician and also to one of our earliest founding pediatricians. In 1938, Suburban Clinic, also a multispecialty practice, was founded on the Eastside. Several of our current Gresham and Happy Valley pediatricians practiced there.
Eventually, the Bodine-Cantril Clinic was demolished and in 1976, after the dust had settled, Metropolitan Clinic was built in the very same parking lot. Many of our Westside and Northwest physicians were originally part of this clinic’s team.
Metropolitan Clinic and Suburban Clinic eventually merged, keeping the name Metropolitan Clinic and existing locations in Portland as well as on the Eastside and Westside. Several other clinics later joined the group, forming HealthFirst, a large organization with more than 200 providers. HealthFirst dissolved in 1999 and while most of the providers disbanded, several of the pediatricians united to start Metropolitan Pediatrics, LLC, a privately owned practice caring exclusively for children and their families at multiple locations throughout the Portland metro area.
With roots in the Bodine-Cantril and Suburban Clinics, Metropolitan Pediatrics is the oldest continuing group of providers in the city of Portland!
Today, Metropolitan Pediatrics boasts nearly 40 providers with locations in Gresham, Happy Valley, NW Portland, and Beaverton. We are still growing and committed to providing outstanding pediatric care in the greater Portland metro area. We continue to honor our heritage every day by providing care that is professional, compassionate, and up-to-date with excellence as our foremost goal.
