It is truly a privilege to partner with children, teens, and families as they navigate through their lives. I am constantly amazed at the resilience I have seen in the patients I have worked with, and it is my my intent to create an environment and provide tools that foster and enhance that ability to "rise to the occasion." My goal is for every visit to feel meaningful, useful, and positive. We are in this together!"– Wendi Major, PhD
Wendi Major, PhD, comes from a family of medical and mental health professionals, and she never expected to follow that particular path. When she was in college, she took a psychology course and fell in love. Wendi took more and more classes in child development, child psychology and parenting, and knew that was the path for her.
Having worked in a children’s hospital for almost 20 years, Dr. Major can say without reservation that the most rewarding aspect of what she does is watching people “rise to the occasion.” She is in awe of what people can do to not only survive, but thrive…even in the most difficult circumstances. She gets to see what true resilience looks like, and is deeply honored to be helpful in any way that she can in that process.
Dr. Major became the handler for the children’s hospital’s first hospital facility dog almost 15 years ago, and this changed her life completely. She expected to see that having a highly trained dog would help people feel more comfortable, more at ease, less anxious and stressed; and there is no doubt that is exactly happened. What it also revealed to her is that therapy and healing comes in many forms, and that unconditional love, support, and the quiet presence of someone who will truly sit with you in every moment of your healing can be the most meaningful. Having the presence of a dog who doesn’t need you to be anything other that what you are, where you are….that is real therapy and true love.
She adores the changing seasons in the beautiful Pacific Northwest, is a big fan of spicy food, and almost always has dog fur on her.
