Biography

Science and volunteering have always been staples in Dr. Nicki’s life. In college, she naturally found her way into Environmental Engineering, which was the perfect intersection of her interests. Through her coursework, Dr. Nicki was exposed to global community volunteering programs like Engineers without Borders, which works to improve the health and infrastructure of communities. Her studies also introduced her to areas of human biology that she found extremely fascinating. These experiences are what ultimately swooned her into applying for medical school – a place where she could continue to explore science and gain skills that help communities.

As a med student, Dr. Nicki loved learning about the intricacies of children’s health and development, and looked forward to her daily interactions with children and their families. She also appreciated pediatrics for its focus on preventive care, an area she felt she could make the most impact for communities. No time spent on her pediatrics rotation ever felt like a chore, and this still holds true today!

Dr. Nicki loves learning about all the determinants of a child’s health and working with families to better understand how we can keep children healthy together. She has a special interest in advocacy and volunteers to support environment health causes throughout Oregon to ensure a healthy environment for the future of our children.

To relax and recharge, Dr. Nicki heads out into nature. She enjoys road tripping adventures to the mountains, forests, and Oregon coast. She’s also a fan of quiet moments at home, tending to her garden.
