Care Philosophy

I believe that good medical care is best provided through a team approach. I find it extremely rewarding to partner with parents who are engaged in their child’s health goals and actively promote a healthy lifestyle for the entire family. I strive to listen and understand each patient’s specific needs, so I can individualize the best possible care plan. I strongly believe in preventive care, including timely vaccinations, and enjoy teaching families about their conditions, so parents feel comfortable caring for their child both now and in the future.”

Biography

Originally from Seattle, Dr. DeSouza relocated to Portland in 2020 to be closer to family and the beauty of the Pacific Northwest. He attended Occidental College in Los Angeles, received his medical degree from Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science in Chicago, and completed his pediatric residency at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center.

Prior to joining Metropolitan Pediatrics, Dr. DeSouza worked in both private practice and with Kaiser Permanente in Denver, Colorado. At Kaiser he served as clinic Chief of Pediatrics for seven years, leading process improvement, culture shaping, and virtual care delivery initiatives. However, his first passion will always be seeing patients in the clinic. The most satisfying aspect of pediatrics for Dr. DeSouza is establishing meaningful relationships with patients and working together with families to achieve the highest level of health and wellness.

Outside of the office, Dr. DeSouza loves spending time with his wife and daughters. They enjoy trying new recipes in the kitchen and recreating some of their favorite restaurant dishes at home – with varied success, admittedly. He is also an avid soccer player and fan as he believes that staying physically active not only helps the body, but also sharpens the mind. Whether he’s relaxing on the couch, exploring the mountains or coast, or experiencing one of Portland’s many unique locales, Dr. DeSouza is so happy to be able to call the Pacific Northwest home again and be part of Metropolitan Pediatrics.
