Care Philosophy

My goal as a psychologist is to help children, teens, and families make changes that can improve quality of life in their social, academic, and family lives. To do this, I work in a collaborative manner with parents, youth, medical teams, and educators."

– Catherine McClellan, PhD

Always fond of working with children, sharing, and connecting with others, Dr. McClellan finds life as a pediatric psychologist energizing and extremely fulfilling. During high school and college, she embraced volunteer opportunities in pediatric medical settings, working with youth experiencing a range of medical concerns. Particularly fascinated by the relationship between physical and mental health, she chose to focus on this area in her graduate and postdoctoral studies. As a result, she’s received extensive training in early childhood development, parent-child conflict surrounding medical adherence, and assessment of neurologically impaired children and adolescents.

Working in a Medical Home that supports both physical and emotional well-being through team-based care is intensely rewarding for Dr. McClellan. She loves helping children in a variety of capacities – either directly with therapy or assessment, or through more indirect ways, such as helping to create a clinic environment that will make visits to Metropolitan Pediatrics as positive as possible. With a special interest in the management of and coping with pediatric pain, she is making great strides in reducing patient distress during shots and blood draws and keeping our little customers happy!

At the end of every workday, Dr. McClellan looks forward to heading home to her children and husband. Among her other loves are gardening and cooking – one of her most prized possessions is a 1958 petal pink oven and range that works like a charm! She’s also keen on combining her interests, often seen inspiring her kids to get their hands dirty in the kitchen and yard too! And although she’s a bit rusty these days, she’s proudly bilingual (French-English).
