COVID-19 Vaccine for Ages 5-11 Coming Soon
Did you hear the good news today? The Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine could be available for kids ages five to 11 in about two weeks.
The vaccine has a few more hoops to jump through before it gets approved and into providers’ hands. With the FDA’s blessing, it’s now onto the CDC (set to meet Nov. 2 and 3), then the Western States Committee, and finally the Oregon Health Authority. Once OHA signs off, vaccine shipments will go out to Oregon’s vaccine providers.
It’s important to note that this age group requires a smaller dose, so we’re waiting on supplies measured for younger kids. While the dosing is different, the timing is the same: two pokes, given three weeks apart.
We’re expecting our vaccine shipment the week of November 8th. As we get closer, we’ll open appointments, and families can start scheduling online or by phone. The supply will be limited at first, and we ask for your patience as we ramp up for more vaccine clinics. For now, the plan is to offer in-clinic appointments, with larger weekend events down the road.
Once again, we recommend that your family receives the COVID-19 vaccine wherever you have access to it first. Oregon pharmacies will now be able to provide the vaccine for ages seven and older.
Here’s to more in-person celebrations and hugs this holiday season. We’re one step closer to putting COVID-19 behind us.
