COVID-19 Boosters for Ages 12+
We have good news! Oregon has approved COVID-19 boosters for people 12 years of age and older after the CDC recommended them for 12- to 15-year-olds earlier this week. With that, we’re looking forward to our adolescents getting their boost of protection in the best way possible.
The best place to get vaccinated is the first place you can get vaccinated. While we continue to have clinic appointments, the winter weather hampers our usual mass-vaccine/drive-thru events. Since timing is important, we want to provide you with all the options in our community if there is one that works better for you. Many community vaccine providers offer doses #1-3 and boosters; no appointment needed. If you have an opportunity to get vaccinated sooner, please take it.
A booster is recommended for everyone 12 and older because vaccine protection decreases over time. Pfizer and Moderna recipients are eligible for a booster five months after their second dose; Johnson & Johnson recipients, two months after their single dose. Boosters can be mixed and matched, but mRNA vaccines (Pfizer or Moderna) are the recommended option. Metropolitan Pediatrics only offers the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine.
Rapid testing is currently available for patients with symptoms. Send-out testing is available for patients without symptoms. We cannot guarantee lab turnaround time, which is currently about three days. Both rapid and send-out testing are subject to supply availability as it varies with national supply chain challenges.
Patient Safety & Access
With the current Omicron wave, we are focused even more on protecting your family and our dedicated staff by limiting potential exposures. We are asking that only one adult visitor be allowed per patient. Infants 12 months and younger may have two visitors. Non-essential visits should be limited and will be scheduled at the earliest opportunity. Note: Well visits with immunizations are essential. We will make every effort to get your child in and protected as soon as possible.
