Air Quality Advisory in Portland
Notice the haze outside this morning? We have wildfire smoke from British Columbia and parts of Oregon to thank for that. With Portland’s current Air Quality Index (AQI) rating at 177, it’s now considered unhealthy for everyone to breathe.
Your best defense? Stay inside if you can. Keep windows and doors closed, unless heat is a problem. Avoid frying or boiling food, which can affect indoor air quality. If you have to venture out, run your car’s air conditioning on recirculate mode to avoid pulling in smoky air. Infants, the elderly, and those with heart and lung conditions are especially vulnerable and should take extra care to avoid time outdoors.
Smoke will continue into our area until Friday before winds pick up and send it away. The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality’s air pollution advisory for Portland, Vancouver, Salem, Eugene, and Medford is expected to stay in effect through August 8th.
